There are many people around the world whose fortunes change overnight. Some people get the treasure, while others win a lottery worth crores. Some people also make a name for themselves on the basis of their hard work. But there are some people among them who, despite earning or winning crores and billions of rupees, they again fall back into their old situation. It seems as if bad luck follows them. Today we are going to introduce you to one such woman, whose name is Lara Griffiths. 19 years ago i.e. in the year 2005, Lara’s life changed overnight, when she won a lottery worth about Rs 20 crores. But fate had something else in store. Today Lara is forced to live a lonely and miserable life with her daughter. Lara told that she and her ex-husband Roger were living a simple life in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. During the same period he won an amount of 1.8 million pounds (about Rs 20 crore).
But Lara Griffiths’ dream soon turned into a nightmare, with a house fire and a divorce that destroyed all her wealth. Lara said, “At that time I really had no idea what to do with this money. I don’t even remember having any conversations with Roger about how to manage money. In such a situation, we started living a wonderful life. We were blowing money like there would never be a tomorrow. Left his job and kept traveling to glamorous places like Dubai, Florida and France. Bought a beauty salon for 150,000 pounds (Rs 1 crore 60 lakh) and bought a luxurious house for 450,000 pounds (Rs 4 crore 80 lakh) and started living there. But bad luck did not leave him. In December 2010, trouble befell him, his luxurious house burnt down. Lara says, “There was a terrible fire in our house. Our house kept burning for three days. We lost all our property.” After the fire, Lara’s entire family lived in hotels and with her mother for eight months, until their house was repaired.
According to the Mirror report, Lara got her home back in July 2011, but her troubles were not over. Her marriage to Roger ended after a few months. She describes the next two years as “absolute hell,” which included taking care of her children despite heartbreak. By the time the divorce papers were signed in December 2013, she was penniless. In such a situation, Lara had to sell her house. Along with this, everything from the salon to everything that he had bought had to be sold. Lara says that the incident of fire is still in my daughter’s mind. She becomes restless at times. Lara herself became ill, but did not lose courage to take care of the children. She still lives in her house with her mother and her daughters Ruby (20) and Kitty (17). Facing all her struggles after winning the jackpot, Lara did not lose courage. She says, “I like my life now. Well, I have gone through some very difficult times, but I have no regrets.”
Let us tell you that Lara met her husband during her university studies. After this, both of them got married in 1997. The life of this couple, who were living an ordinary life, changed in October 2005, when they got the jackpot in the lottery. At the time, Lara was teaching and her husband Roger was working as an IT manager, while their daughter Ruby was still a child. Recalling that day, Lara says that suddenly at night an email came, which Roger saw. It was around 2.30 in the night. Roger called me upstairs to see the computer screen, which read that our balance was £1.8 million (Rs 20 crore). Lara said she initially thought it was a hoax, but at that time national lottery operator Camelot confirmed the couple’s win and they decided to go public with their story. But despite winning Rs 20 crores, Lara is still living a miserable life.
